Continuing her longstanding commitment to environmental preservation and her deep love for nature, Shahida Kausar Farooq, Chief Editor of Monthly Subh-e-Nau, spearheaded a vibrant tree plantation campaign at the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Complex in Islamabad during the third week of April.

The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness and promote practical, collective action for a greener Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Energy, Mr. Musaddiq Malik, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance was Pakistan's celebrated tennis star and President of the PTF, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, who lent his support to Subh-e-Nau's efforts to merge sports and environmental consciousness.

In his address, Musaddiq Malik stressed the urgent need for resilience and proactive measures in the face of intensifying climate challenges.

"Pakistan is, unfortunately, among the countries most severely impacted by climate change," he said. "Rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and recurring natural disasters threaten both our environment and our livelihoods. Initiatives like this one by Subh-e-Nau are not only about planting trees, they are about planting hope. They remind us that community engagement and environmental stewardship are essential for a sustainable future."

Shahida Kausar Farooq, a tireless environmental advocate and founder of Subh-e-Nau, emphasized the importance of grassroots involvement in the climate movement. Her passion for nature-based solutions continues to inspire younger generations.

"Tree plantation is not just a symbolic act, it is a powerful, practical step against environmental degradation," she said. "Through such efforts, we aim to awaken a sense of responsibility, particularly among the youth, because climate justice demands everyone's participation."

She also shared her personal journey of more than four decades in tree plantation initiatives. "I believe individual efforts count, and Allah surely rewards those who care for His creation," she added. "Today's youth need more outdoor, meaningful activities like tennis and tree planting—not just as recreation, but as a break from screen-dominated lives."

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, known for using his platform to advocate for social and humanitarian causes, highlighted the unique role sports can play in promoting environmental awareness.

"As athletes, our responsibility goes beyond the court. We have a voice, and we must use it to inspire others to care for the environment," he said. "I am proud to support Subh-e-Nau's green initiative, and I hope more organizations will take similar steps."

Health and Environment Connection

Highlighting the significant correlation between health and the environment, participants emphasized that environmental activities such as tree plantation significantly enhance community health. Improved air quality, increased green spaces, and opportunities for outdoor physical activities like sports contribute to physical and mental well-being. Integrating health considerations into environmental initiatives can lead to comprehensive community benefits and foster a holistic approach to sustainable living.

As Pakistan continues to grapple with the impacts of climate change, events like these offer a much-needed glimmer of hope. They reflect the power of collaboration between government, civil society, and passionate individuals. With continued awareness, dedication, and action, the vision of a cleaner, greener Pakistan is within reach.
